One Day Japan Happened - Geisha

from £12.50

This collection was inspired by Japanese traditions and every day moments of Japanese lifestyle. This series will guide you through inspiring aspects of Japanese culture combining a vibrant colour palette and strong woodwork-based outlines in a contemporary context.

Geisha (芸者) are female Japanese entertainers who perform traditional  Japanese art-forms, such as traditional dance and singing. They are characterised by their distinct appearance of long, trailing kimono, traditional hairstyles and the oshiroi makeup they wear.

Contrary to popular belief, geisha are not prostitutes – a misconception in the West originating from foreigners confusing geisha with oiran  (courtesans) and other prostitutes, all of whom historically wore kimono, despite the differences in their styles of dress and appearance.
